Colour-Coordinated Transformation for BHP FutureFit Training Academy

BHP has been investing in training pathways and apprenticeship opportunities for individuals within the mining industry. Currently, across different facilities, more than 1100 people have joined the FutureFit Program and more than 500 have graduated with qualifications and a guaranteed job with BHP.

To better support industry capabilities BHP decided to build a new academy in Perth to create 2,500 traineeships and apprenticeships opportunities. The new facility offers an expanded curriculum with training in high risk-work, licensing, maintenance, associate and trade programs in auto electrical, fabrication, mechanical fitting and heavy diesel.

Project Requirements:
In order to best configure the space at their new academy BHP hired a contractor specifying different requirements for their outdoor spaces. In April 2023 Luke from Frenken Group got in touch with Felton Industries looking for outdoor seating options that were versatile within tight spaces. Working within 17 square meters of space, Felton had to consider the most suitable seating options that wouldn’t further constrict the space. BHP was looking for fast turnarounds in order to provide seating in time for the opening of the new training centre.

Project Solution:
To best match the space’s neutral industrial theme we recommended one of our most popular products from our aluminium seating range. The existing academy facility incorporates mainly neutral colour facades with accents of purple and orange, the BHP company colours. The contractor chose to mirror that within the outdoor furniture utilising a plain aluminium tabletop paired with a combination of purple or orange powder-coated legs and safety end caps.

To effectively utilise the constrained space we recommended ordering 7 of the standard park settings. This recommendation meant that the settings could be spaced effectively throughout the area and offer significant seating capacity. With each setting effectively seating up to 8 people these tables settings would provide seating for up to 60 people.

Working within the client’s timeline we coordinated purchase, manufacture, freight and delivery so the seating was easily available prior to the academy’s opening.
