Inclusive public seating is something Felton Industries is passionate about and we’d like to see all parks and public areas across Australia offer wheelchair friendly seating that is safe and comfortable for everyone. When seating in one of Parkes Shire Council’s parks needed replacing because it was no longer serviceable, they asked Felton Industries to design a solution that would not only update the seating but also allow disabled access and be suitable for older citizens as well.
After a careful review of the site, Felton Industries recommended the Bolt Down Park Setting for its attractive styling and proven durability. Constructed from premium materials including a modern anodized finish, the Bolt Down Park Setting is made to last. Although perfect for the site, as a fixed setting it restricted easy access for all members of the community, so the Felton design team developed a simple customisation that allowed full wheelchair access to the table tops without the need to manoeuvre around the table legs. In addition to this, Felton’s patented safety end caps were added to both the table tops and seat planks to avoid any risk of injury from sharp edges.
The project was delivered on time and on budget and Felton Industries’ commitment to quality, inclusiveness and longevity is evident in the versatile and stylish design. Parkes Shire Council was clearly impressed with the outcome of the project. To quote a council representative, “The multi-purpose setting is an invaluable piece of furniture for our community.” Which is exactly the kind of feedback that drives the Felton team to keep setting the standard in outdoor furniture.
