Maroochydore Basketball Stadium

A surge in the popularity of basketball on the Sunshine Coast, home to the Suncoast Clippers, resulted in the existing facilities of the Maroochydore Basketball Stadium being upgraded from one court to three. To make way for the third court the existing grandstand had to be demolished. With crowds growing all the time, and a delicate playing surface to consider, the Sunshine Coast Council approached Felton Industries for a creative seating solution.

There were a number of important factors that influenced our recommendation. Seating needed to be sturdy enough to cope with spectator numbers while being easily portable to allow for the various other groups utilising the facility. Of primary importance was the need to be able to move the seating across the new hardwood playing surfaces without marking, scuffing or scratching the timber.

Felton Industries proposed that the council install 5 customised versions of our Select Grandstand. Constructed from premium Australian aluminium, each lightweight grandstand is 6 metres long with 4 tiers of seating. Together they allow for an additional 300 spectators to view the game in comfort. To move the grandstands around the new courts, Felton Industries designed and constructed a custom trolley system fitted with soft rubber wheels. The trolleys made these large and sturdy units totally portable, able to be moved with ease without any risk of damaging the precious playing surface.

Ordered in late February 2018, Felton Industries manufactured the customised Select Grandstand seating and dispatched it using the services of a local courier to ensure the consignment was delivered safely within the very tight 3 week timeline. The installation of the Select Grandstands to the new Maroochydore Basketball Stadium has transformed the spectator environment while providing the flexibility needed to cater for multiple uses. Built to last, we’re sure they’ll withstand the demands of excited spectators for many years to come.
