Gunnedah Shire Council
A good view of the action is the reasonable expectation of everyone that attends an event. So, when the existing grandstands at Gunnedah Showground were deemed unsafe in 2018, the Gunnedah Shire Council approached Felton Industries for advice on how to meet their seating needs for future community events. Although the project lasted for well over a year from original consultation through to installation, manufacturing time for the sixteen grandstands was a tight six weeks.
To meet the Councils requested specification, within budget and timeframe constraints, the Felton Industries’ team recommended the creation of custom-built grandstands. Each grandstand was expanded to a length of 5 metres and featured a full 6 tiers of seating. The inclusion of double planked footwells ensured the comfort of those already seated and ease of access for those in search of a seat. Hand railings that exceeded Australian Standards requirements ensured the safety of all occupants. Manufactured entirely from premium, Australian aluminium, the grandstands are designed to handle the wear and tear of excited crowds as well as the challenges of an unforgiving climate. They’re impervious to rust, require a minimum of maintenance and their marine-grade anodised finish is as attractive as it is hard wearing.
Through close cooperation with Gunnedah Shire Council, the Felton team was able to meet or exceed all of the original design requirements and complete the manufacture of sixteen, custom designed grandstands in just six weeks. Now on site at Gunnedah Showground, and offering a combined total seating for over 1100 spectators, they are a key element of a major upgrade to public facilities. According to Gunnedah Show Society president, Rob Witts, the custom designed grandstands from Felton Industries “will make a big difference”.
